The fledgling bookworm at home!

"Ammmaaaaaa Sarrrlllaaa book.." yells my 2 year 2 month old daughter and then runs to her growing stack of kiddie books. Once we are done with Sarla and her lovely kite story, we have to move on to the Tigaaa story (read as Tiger Story) or Shringeri Srinivas's Annual Hair cut day book! She eagerly awaits to know what will happen next, this despite the fact that she already knows what comes after each page, but that does not diminish her enthusiasm, if anything I think she looks forward to that familiarity, pretty much similar to me wanting to re-read Pride and Prejudice every now and then! Another of her favorites is a book called Golu-which basically is an ode to the "circle". From Golu, my daughter has picked up the names of Indian sweets like jalebis and laddoos. She knows what a jellyfish looks like and knows what crabs are, all thanks to yet another book focused on a trip to the beach. Imagine seeing in real what you read in a book, her joy was apparent at having recognized crabs during a recent Goa trip. My little daughter loves these books and I can imagine why...the setting is very Indian and very recognizable to our space. The illustrations are beautiful and real to the Indian setting. So Thanks Pratham Books for coming up with genuine pearls that every one from a 2 year old to a 33 year old cynic like me can rejoice and re-read multiple-quadruple number of times. TEAM PRATHAM... You guys are doing a fabulous job! Looking forward to getting my daughter to read all the Pratham books!:)

  1. What a beautiful world for our kids to explore:). Books take you to a different world, one where you are transported to the adventures of the characters. Then those adventures, the sorrows, the happiness all become yours :)!! Great going Varsha! I hope our kids are able to live the same joy as they read books :)
